Season Ends with Loss to Newport

Ryle's poor outside shooting in the second half couldn't keep them in the game as Newport defeated the Raiders 62-46 at the Bank of Kentucky Center on Wednesday night.

Newport packed their zone in after the Raiders successfully scored a majority of their points in the paint, making it difficult to get the ball inside and letting the Raiders rely on outside shooting. Ryle was 1-13 from three point range. Bobby Stauffer was still able to score though as he led the team with 20 points.

Ryle Wins 33rd District; Will Face Newport in Regional Tournament

The Raiders, led by MVP Mitch McLeish's 27 points, won the 33rd District Tournament with a 44-27 victory over Conner and 66-51 victory over Boone County. Clay Coleman and Bobby Stauffer, along with McLeish, were named to the all-tournament team.

This is only the second time in school history that the men's basketball team has won the 33rd District. In 2002, the Raiders won the 33rd District and 9th Region Tournaments, but lost in the first round of State.

With the win, the Raiders will play Newport High School, who lost in their district championship to Newport Central Catholic. The game will take place Wednesday night at 6:00 at the Bank of Kentucky Center at Northern Kentucky University.
